Andrew Hummel III Obituary

Andrew J. Hummel III — lovingly known as Drew, Ace, Pop Pop, Boy Boy, Pops, and a dear friend to many — passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on November 22, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he lived a full and meaningful life defined by love, strength, loyalty, and generosity.

Drew proudly served his country as a United States Naval Reserve veteran, where he was honored with multiple medals and commendations for his service during the Vietnam War, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Force Insignia and Bronze Star (campaign star), and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. His service reflected his deep sense of duty, courage, and pride — values that carried through every aspect of his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Andrew J. Hummel II and Genevieve Hummel, and his brother, Marc Hummel.

Drew leaves behind a legacy of love through his children — Andrew Hummel IV, Melissa Hummel Ortiz, and bonus daughter Nicole Shannon Webb — and as a guiding figure and provider for Amber Gawthrop. His love extended through 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Even though he may not have seen them all the time, he always got a twinkle in his eye when talking about them — they each brought him endless joy and pride.

He is survived by his devoted life partner and better half, Rosemarie Shannon, who stood faithfully by his side and shared with him countless moments of laughter, love, and companionship. Together they built a life filled with care, devotion, and cherished memories.

Drew was a true outdoorsman at heart — happiest with a fishing pole in his hand or deep in the woods during hunting season. He found peace in nature, whether by the shore he loved or in the mountains he called his second home. A gifted storyteller, he could captivate any room with his tales — some funny, some wise, and all unforgettable.

He was a man of great strength — the kind of strength that didn’t just show in his hands, but in his heart. He showed up for others without hesitation, helped without being asked, and made everyone he met feel like an old friend. To know him was to love him; to love him was to never forget him.

Drew lived life like the MVP he was — not for fame or reward, but because he led with love, loyalty, and purpose. He was a rock to his family, a friend to all, and a light that will never dim. His stories, laughter, and the lessons he shared will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

He will be deeply missed, eternally loved, and forever remembered — gone but never forgotten.

“Fair winds and following seas, sailor. Your watch is over — we have the watch now.”
