Barbara Thaete, 72, passed away suddenly on March 18, 2021.
Beloved wife of Michael Thaete, loving mother of Kevin M. and Christine Ann, sister to Joyce (Barry) Reisig, Nancy Hayes and Joseph A. (Jill) Ritts. She'll remain cherished by her many nieces and nephews. Barbara graduated St. Hubert's High School in 1966. She worked at the US Post Office for 25 years and retired as the secretary of the regional post master. She was then secretary at Our Lady of Consolation Parish up until retirement, where she was heavily involved in all church activities including the Choir, Feast of the Saints, and planning all church events. Devoted to helping anyone in need, she was a charter member (president) of the Torresdale Lioness Club, started the "Token of Appreciation" drive to help veteran's transportation, The "Joshua Tree" collecting Christmas gifts for families in need and helped run the parish food bank. Born and raised in Tacony, she inherited her love of the neighborhood from her parents Murlene and Anthony Ritts.
Always a lover of animals and nature, she lived by this quote, "Woodsman, touch not a single bow for in my youth it sheltered me and I shall protect it now".
The Family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Our Lady of Consolation Church. Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment is private.
