Charles David Cooper 

Born January 2,1940, and he passed away on his Birthday, January 2, 2026.

Spouse of Edna Mae Cooper(Niehause) for many years.

Preceded in death by his loving mother, Louis Murphy Cooper and father, Samuel Cooper.

He had two children; a beloved son Michael (Yolanda), and a daughter Lesa.

He was the cherished grandfather of Dempsey, Jacob, the late Zale, Greb, Cameron, and Ganz.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving siblings Joseph, Samuel, Doris, and Martha.

Survived by his loving brother Bobby, and sister Roseanne.

Charles was born and raised in Philadelphia living and working his whole life in the Philadelphia area. He worked in home remodeling as a carpenter. First working for Four States Builders for 10 years and then transitioning into business for himself, specializing in kitchens and bathrooms. In 1977, he met Father Peter McGowen, Pastor at Saint Peter the Apostle Church at 5th and Girard Sts. in Philadelphia. While working at St. Peter’s Parish he built the original St. John Neumann Shrine. When John Neumann was Canonized in 1977 by Pope Paul VI the John Neumann Shrine was greatly enhanced by Charles. In 1979, Charles had the distinct honor of meeting Pope John Paul II while the Pope visited the John Neumann Shrine.

Father McGowen brought Charles with him when he was transferred to St. Boniface Church at Hancock and Diamond Sts. in Philadelphia. While there Charles worked on many projects including the installation of a state of the art heating system in the school.

With his immense knowledge and many years of experience, Charles worked as a Building Inspector for the State of Pennsylvania stationed in Delaware County until his retirement.

During the late 1980’s and through the 1990’s Charles was heavily involved in his community as part of Tacony Civic Association with his friend Joe Sannutti. Together they were very instrumental in forming UCAN - United Civic Associations of the Northeast in Philadelphia. Charles served as the organization’s President.
