John F. O’Connor, born July 13, 1975, in Philadelphia, passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 50. The oldest of four children, John grew up with a strong sense of responsibility, a sharp wit, and a gift for making people laugh—traits that carried him through every chapter of his life.
A proud graduate of Holy Ghost Preparatory School and the United States Military Academy at West Point (Class of 1997), John went on to serve his country with distinction as a U.S. Army officer. Stationed in Korea and Colorado, he led soldiers as a Platoon Leader and Fire Direction Officer and later represented the Army as a Public Relations Officer. He earned the rank of Captain before receiving an honorable discharge.
After his military service, John returned home to Philadelphia. He worked in finance for several years before finding his calling as a Philadelphia Police Officer. He served the 17th District as a member of 5 Squad and as the Community Relations Officer. John received numerous commendations for his service, including the National Liberty Museum Award of Valor.
John’s proudest role, however, was being a father. His daughter, June, was the center of his world, and nothing brought him more joy than watching her grow. He was also the beloved son of John and Patricia (née Dunne) O’Connor, the former spouse of Jocelyn (née Cargile) O’Connor, and a devoted brother to Laura Krause (Stephen), Kathryn Davis (Mark), and Patrick O’Connor (Meaghan). He was a cherished uncle to Julia, Mia, Connor, Jack, Macallister, and Hudson.
If there was one thing everyone could agree on, it was this: John could make you laugh. His humor was one of a kind— sharp and unforgettable. He could break tension with a joke, lift spirits with a quick remark, and always leave people smiling.
