Joseph T. Murray passed away February 17, 2023.
He was the beloved husband of Michele (nee Farnan), loving father of Colin, Sean, Sarah, and Leah, brother of Nancy Zwolinski (Michael), William (Ann), the late Vincent, the late James (Michele), Kathleen Salinis, Maryanne, the late Danny, and Kevin.
Born in Philadelphia in 1952, Joe grew up one of nine Murray siblings on Chelten Ave. There, he attended Holy Angels and was a proud graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School. Later he briefly attended Temple University before finding other passions.
He worked many different jobs in his life - a bartender, a cook, a restaurant manager, but ultimately found a career as a real estate appraiser. He worked in center city for over 40 years before running his own practice for another five.
He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, eventually leading him to coach his kids’ own teams. Both of which caused him much joy and frustration. He was a passionate historian, especially when it came to Irish or American history. He loved many forms of art, including books by John Steinbeck, James Joyce and music by the Chieftains.
He was the proud Uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews, and loved being a Great Uncle as well.
Moving forward without him will be hard - we will miss his laugh, his stories, his smile, and of course his great cooking. We are comforted by the thought that he is reunited with so many loved ones. May he watch over us.
Services and interment are private.
