Paul Mueller Obituary

Paul William Mueller, age 92, passed away on May 20, 2021 at his home in Worcester, PA surrounded by his family. He is survived by his six children David, Lynn Allen (Michael), Elisabeth Brown (Michael), Richard (Patti), Barbara, and Paul (Danine), 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. His wife of 65 years, Marian (nee McClellan), predeceased him in 2020.

Paul was born on November 9, 1928 in Egg Harbor, New Jersey to Louise and Adolf Mueller. He attended Egg Harbor High School where he lettered in Football, Basketball, and Baseball and captained all three teams, graduating in 1946. At University of Delaware, he captained the Blue Hen football team, graduating in 1953, and was drafted to play with his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. In 1954, the Army called and Paul was commissioned to Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. He married his college sweetheart, Marian McClellan in May of 1954, was made First Lieutenant in 1955, coached the Football team for two seasons and was honorably discharged in 1956. He subsequently began a job with DuPont, where he worked for 12 years. Paul then made the move to London as President of the MAP Ad Agency, living in Surrey, England for three years with Marian and the six children. In 1970, the family moved back to Philadelphia, and Paul held several roles at newspaper firms including Woman's Wear Daily where he was instrumental in the launch of a new format bi-weekly magazine, W, the Army Times, LA Times, and finally at Sawyer Ferguson Walker, Co. in New York until 1996. Paul and Marian retired to the Norristown area and lived for 25 years surrounded by their children and spouses, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He always had a bountiful vegetable garden, he voraciously read books, built furniture, had daily happy hours with Marian and sister-in-law Norma, and was a diehard Eagles fan. Seeing them win the Superbowl in 2018 was a lifelong dream. He also avidly followed the Phillies and Sixers.

Service and reception will be held on Friday, May 28 at 3:00 pm at the home of Lynn and Michael Allen, 2950 Fieldcrest Way, Eagleville, PA. Contributions in lieu of flowers to the Foundation for Fighting Blindness.
