Sophia Mamas

Sophia Mamas (nee Zografos), beloved mother, Yiayia, and friend, passed away peacefully on
May 17, 2026, after a brief illness at the age of 92. Born in Karystos, Evia, Greece, she was the
youngest of four children of the late Yiorgios and Evaggelia Zografos.
She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: Maria (Antonis) Kekempanos, Antonis
(Maria) Zografos, and Nikolaos (Maria) Zografos; and by her niece, Evaggelia Zografos. She was
married to Alexandros Mamas, who is of blessed memory, for 53 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria (James) McNally of Rydal, Pennsylvania, and their
children, Catherine, Dimitri, and Alexandra; and by her son, George (Pastor Leslie) Mamas of
East Norriton, Pennsylvania, and his children, Phoenix and Persephone, and Caroline Barcia.
She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law and their families: Pagona (the late Eleftherios)
Dimizas and Aikaterni (the late Nikolaos) Mamas, as well as other in-laws and extended family
in Greece.

Sophia was an accomplished and dedicated seamstress who worked for many years in apparel
manufacturing, rising to the position of Samples Department Manager. When not preparing her
well-crafted Greek dishes and pastries, she enjoyed countless summers returning to her roots in
Greece, spending time with extended family, and meeting new people from all over the world.
Sophia not only loved sewing clothing and household items for her children, grandchildren, and
extended family, but also generously shared her talents with the Annunciation community. She
helped create costumes for GOYA Sights and Sounds productions, and repaired countless altar
server robes. She enjoyed giving back to her church community and cherished the friendships
she formed over the years.

The family will receive relatives and friends for her Viewing on Friday, May 22nd, from 10:00
until 11:00 AM, with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, at Annunciation- Evangelismos Greek
Orthodox Church, 7921 Old York Rd. Elkins Park, PA 19027. Interment will follow at Lawnview
Cemetery.
